Artist Ira Blount (1918-2020) layered and glued alternating strips of light and dark stained wood before carving it into the flat-bottomed egg form, resulting in a pattern of concentric stripes. Utilizing natural materials and classic woodworking techniques, Blount’s egg is notable for its colors and simple form.
After moving to Washington, DC following World War II, Ira Blount mastered dozens of artisanal crafts. His love for crafting, learning, and community engagement would endure over the course of his long life and career.
