Object Details

Description

In 1856, Theodore Hamm, an immigrant from Germany, moved to St. Paul, Minnesota and opened a small brewery called the Theodore Hamm Brewing Company. After World War II, the president of the company, William C. Figge, initiated nationwide expansion and purchased breweries in San Francisco and Los Angeles, California. In the 1950s, Hamm’s Brewing Company hired Campbell Mithun Advertising Agency who designed the company’s new cartoon bear mascot and organized the brewery’s advertising campaign.
