    Summerscales, Edith May

    Description

This tan paper model has twenty equilateral triangles for faces. A mark in pencil reads: Regular Icosahedron. Another mark in pencil reads: E. Summerscales.
Model 1979.0102.234 and model 1979.0102.221 are marked in the same handwriting and undated. Model 1979.0102.234 is signed: E. Summerscales. Model 1979.0102.221 is signed Summerscale. A third model by a student of A. Harry Wheeler (MA.304723.217) has the signature E. M. Summers and a date of 1925. A fourth model (MA.304723.515) is signed: E. Summerscales.
According to the Brown University Archives, there was no graduate of Brown University or Pembroke College with the last name of Summers until 1935 and his first name was Robert. Hence it seems likely that all three models were made by Edith May Summerscales (1903-1976), who graduated from Pembroke College in 1925. She was from Pawtucket, Rhode Island, and became a mathematics teacher in a junior high school there.
