Dole, Bob
Kemp, Jack

Description

A football was a natural choice as a campaign item for the 1996 Republican ticket. Bob Dole, the presidential nominee, earned two football letters at the University of Kansas and his running mate had an even more impressive football resume. Jack Kemp was a professional quarterback in the US and Canada for 13 years, including leading the Buffalo Bills to the AFL championship and winning MVP honors in 1965. Football skills notwithstanding, Dole and Kemp lost the 1996 election to their Democratic opponents President Bill Clinton and Vice President Al Gore.
