Description

Football shaped button is brown with black printing in the center, Flying A Sportscasts 30th Year.
Button features the "Flying A" logo that was used on Flying A-branded products, gas stations, service stations and Veedol motor oil. All of these products were owned by Tidewater Oil Company from New York City (1887). The largest stockholder of Tide Water was the Standard Oil Company of New Jersey, which is now Exxon Mobil.
The Flying A brand was created in 1901 for Associated Oil Company's premium-grade gasoline (Associated Oil merged with Tide Water). Tidewater's western refining and marketing properties were purchased by Phillips Petroleum Company (now ConocoPhillips) in 1966. The Flying A gas stations were immediately rebranded Phillips 66.
This pin commemorates the 30th anniversary of Flying-A's sponsorship of sports broadcasting.
