Summary

This cabin floodlight was one of several lights installed inside the cabin of the two-astronaut Gemini spacecraft. It has both white and red lights; the red light could be selected when the astronauts wished to protect their night vision. This particular light flew on the Gemini 6 spacecraft with astronauts Wally Schirra and Tom Stafford on a one-day mission, Dec. 15-16, 1965, to rendezvous with the Gemini 7 spacecraft.
In 1975, the McDonnell-Douglas Corporation in St. Louis, manufacturers of the Gemini spacecraft, transferred this artifact to the Smithsonian Institution as part of a shipment of Gemini parts and equipment.
