Summary
The process of waste collection and disposal is complicated in a decreased gravity environment, necessitating equipment such as this urine filter from Gemini 8. Astronauts urinated through a rubber hose-like fitting, which connected to a filter and either collection bag or hose. Inside the metal tube, a filter trapped particulate matter from the urine to prevent clogging the opening of the urine dump nozzle.
NASA transferred this filter to the Museum in 1968 along with other flown and unflown Gemini program equipment.
