STONE (PAINTED) FIGURINE WITH METAL ROD - ONLY THE HEAD - EGYPT.
A Hathor image, per Dr. Betsy M. Bryan, Professor of Egyptian Art and Archaeology, Johns Hopkins University. A portion of a faience sistrum. There would have been a handle at the base [where a modern collector has ground off some to plane the bottom surface, and attached a mounting pin], and would have had the noise-maker part of the sistrum on the goddess's head. Per Dr. Bryan, the Walters Art Museum in Baltimore, Maryland has a nearly identical one which is complete.
Considered for NMNH exhibit Eternal Life in Ancient Egypt but eliminated. 2011 preliminary list for exhibit identifies as: The cow-eared goddess Hathor, Dyn. 26.
