    Object Details

    Description

    Hand-modelled figurine of an elephant and rider. A large mass of sandy accretion from the kiln floor is attached to left rear foot of the elephant. The rider is broken off at the waist. The trunk section of elephant's head has been reattached. A large protruberance attached to the elephant's side below the rider's right foot has also broken off. Appliqued tail of elephant is chipped. Elephant's eyes and ear lobes are appliqued.
    Clay: Moderately fine, tan stoneware.
    Glaze: Iron-brown glaze covers rider and elephant to roughly the level of the elephant's knees.
    Decoration: None.
