Description
Off-white, sleeveless, floor-length peau de soie evening gown. Scooped neckline in F&B (lower in B). Straps approx. 1-1/8" wide. CB opening with metal zipper 14.5" long topped with metal hook & fabric eye. Bodice lined in shiny cream-colored synthetic trimmed with narrow band of lace. Boning all around bodice with bone in back going up strap almost to shoulder top. Built in brassiere with elastic straps under each breast. Elastic (7/8") band attached below brassiere at CF and hooks in back. Hanging straps both sides inside at side seam. Long dart each side from underarm to breast. Bodice appliqued with green silk leaves & red velvet rose "buds" off a green silk cord. Applique runs from bodice front on both sides to CB opening & continues down 2 attached floor-length panels; underside of panels is same red/pink velvet as roses. CB opening decorated both side with large velvet rose blossoms. Down outside of R floating panel vine with leaves & 3 velvet buds extends 11". On L floating panel, vine with 3 blossoms and 3 buds extends 24". Attached A-line skirt lined in off-white cotton. Hem and interior seams trimmed in same lace as bodice lining. Slip, attached at waist, made of same material as bodice lining; lined with off-white cotton. At botton of slip, a 5" band of netting on outside of slip. Three gold-colored butterflies tacked to outside of slip in back. Worn by donor as her debutante gown in 1967.
