Description
Long dress of heavy white cotton, straight sleeve, body flares slightly at hem as long, wedge-shaped pieces are sewn in from under arm to hem. Ornamented at the hem with a deep border of embroidery in black, brown, olive green and red. Design is highly stylized: at bottom, solidly worked from 6 3/4 inches in narrow bands of zigzag patterns; above, an arrangement of pillar-like forms and stylized plants, with a plant at the top of each pillar, so that the whole suggests a wall. Height of the whole border is 14 inches. Cuffs of sleeves are also finished with a deep border of embroidery in brown, red, white and yellow silks, in geometric forms. Mainly cross stitch; on sleeve coarse darning stitch.
