Summary

This is the original cover-layer from the spacesuit worn by astronaut James McDivitt on the Gemini 4 mission in June 1965. The cover-layer is made of high-temperature nylon, later called Nomex, and was designed to provide thermal protection for the astronaut during the mission.

The cover-layer was removed in 1986 due the major deterioration of the nylon, and it was replaced by the spacesuit manufacturer with a replica layer. This original layer is kept in environmental storage.
