Description
Begun as an American Football League expansion franchise in 1967, the Cincinnati Bengals joined the National Football League when the two Leagues merged in 1970. The team was founded by Paul Brown, former part-owner and head coach of the NFL's Cleveland Browns.
"Bengals" had been used as a team name for earlier football teams in CIncinnati.
