Summary

Article describes images depicting 3-D views of the interior of the Smithsonian Institution Building or Castle from 1857-1882, including the Smithsonian Art Gallery, Gothic Hall, Upper Main Hall, the Picture Gallery, and Joseph Henry's private apartments. Included is text by Stamm and Fleming describing the images in detail. The images were created using stereoscopic photography.
Image is a stereoscopic view of one of the bedrooms in the Henry apartments in the Smithsonian Castle, taken by T. W. Smillie in c. 1878.
