Description
A sepia tone carte-de-visite of sculptor Edmonia Lewis. Captured in front of a bright wall, Edmonia Lewis is seated in a short-back wooden chair. She leans on a small table covered by an ornate cloth and looks directly at the camera. Her dark curly hair is parted in the middle and she wears a collared long sleeve floor length dress. She has a dark, narrow ribbon tied at her neck, and a ring is visible on her proper right ring finger. On the reverse of the carte-de-visite are graphite inscriptions including [Edmonia / Lewis / Sculptor] and photographer’s studio information in black ink: [MARSHALL / PHOTOGRAPHER, / Studio Building, / Cor. Tremont and Bromfield Sts., / BOSTON.].
