Description
John McCain, senator from Arizona, was the Republican nominee for president in 2008. He chose Sarah Palin, governor of Alaska, as his vice-presidential running mate, the first time the Republican Party featured a woman on the national ticket. McCain and Palin were defeated by the Democratic ticket of senators Barack Obama of Illinois and Joe Biden of Delaware.
