    Description (Brief)

    Gallaudet University was founded in Washington D.C. in 1864 with the purpose of providing secondary education for students who were deaf or hard of hearing. In 1988, after intense advocacy and demonstrations by students on his behalf, I. King Jordan became the first president of Gallaudet University who was deaf or hard of hearing.
