    Object Details

    Artist

    James Amos Porter

    Caption

A small tan and brown butterfly near the bottom of the image spreads its wings wide next to the larger blue, brown, and white butterfly in the center of the image. A third butterfly with closed wings appears to drink nectar from a white flowering plant near the top of the image. The work demonstrates artist James Porter’s interest in experimenting with mixed techniques, such as sgraffito drawing and painting, to create his images.
