Description
William Jennings Bryan was one of the leading orators of his day, an ability that helped him become the Democratic nominee for president three times. He lost to Republicans William McKinley in 1896 and 1900 and William Howard Taft in 1908. As a result, Bryan holds the record for winning the most Electoral College votes without ever winning an election.
