Object Details

Summary

Food for spaceflight must be nutritious, lightweight, and easily stored. As astronauts and cosmonauts spend increasing amounts of time in space, the food must also be appealing. This is a package of Russian table bread. The bread is divided into small cubes and wrapped in a plastic envelope. A cosmonaut can break off a cube to eat without shedding crumbs in the spacecraft. An American collector donated this bread to the museum in 1972.
