Description
This violin was made in Bohemia around 1780. It has been extensively repaired and re-varnished but still retains the original maple purfling, spruce corner blocks and shallow linings of willow. The original pear wood scroll with an exaggerated first volute is perhaps the violin’s most interesting feature. This violin is made of a table of two-piece spruce, back of two-piece plain maple, ribs of mildly figured maple, grafted maple neck terminating in a pegbox and scroll of plain pear wood, and an extensively retouched yellow-brown varnish.
