Blanchard Snare Drum

This snare drum was made by Charles P. Blanchard in Concord, New Hampshire, around 1835-1865. It has a reddish-brown stained hoop nailed together with brass tacks, with skin heads. The wood hoops are made of dark-stained wood with a band of lighter wood in the center. There are 10 sets of metal hooks with rope laced through leather ears, used to tighten the hoops. The drum has gut snares. There is a printed label inside the shell:

Porter George Blanchard was born in Milford, New Hampshire in 1788. He was a cabinet maker who also did silver work in a shop on Main Street in Concord, New Hampshire.
