One of the most popular performers on the planet, Beyoncé is a megastar whose talent embraces singing, dancing, songwriting, acting, and entrepreneurship. Her music is generally R&B but also includes pop, funk, hip-hop, and soul.
As of 2018, Beyoncé has been nominated for over sixty Grammy Awards, more than any other woman in history, and she has won twenty-two of those awards. She has also garnered twelve MTV Video Music Awards, a Billboard Millennium Award, and countless other accolades. An electrifying performer, Beyoncé is known for highly choreographed dance routines and her elaborate costumes. In 2013, the New Yorker described her as “the most important and compelling popular musician of the twenty-first century. It’s not just that she’s a dazzling, gale-force performer. She’s got the finest set of ears, the sharpest musical mind, of anyone in her pop generation.”
