Leon Barritt (1872-1938) was a reporter, editor, cartoonist and amateur astronomer in New York City. Garrett Putnam Serviss (1851-1929) was a New York writer who specialized in astronomy, travel and history. Working together they created a moveable and inexpensive planisphere.
