Bag, Temporary Stowage, Apollo 11

The temporary stowage bags were used for temporary stowage of small items and permanent stowage of dry refuse or "trash." It has two pockets. The outer pocket is about 3 feet by 1 foot by 3 inches and is held shut by a bar spring. The inner pocket is flat, about 1 by 1 foot and is held shut by a rubber bungee. Stowed at launch in locker A1, the bags are attached by snaps to shelves to the right and left of the outer astronaut couches and in the Lower Equipment Bay for the astronaut in the center seat. The outer bag is for dry uncontaminated waste matter and the inner bag for temporary stowage of small items.

This bag was one of two flown on the Apollo 11 mission and was transferred to the Smithsonian in 1970.
