Scope and Contents

This subseries includes Lantern slides, negatives, and photographic prints shot by Dr. Leuman Waugh in Labrador, Newfoundland, Québec, Ontario, and other locations in eastern Canada circa 1915-1930. Waugh photographed people from many Indigenous eastern Canadian communities including Labrador Inuit, Inuit [Ungava/Ungavamiut], Eastern Arctic, and Eastern Subarctic. There are also photographs that depict Eastern Subarctic and Northeast Indigenous communities in Muskoka Lakes and Wabikin regions of Ontario. The photographs include landscapes; transportation via canoes, flatboat, motorboat, and steamboat; buildings such as post offices, churches, and homes; wildlife and animals such as dogs, cats, polar bears, and birds including puffins; flora such as wildflowers; fishing and fishermen; and whaling and whalers, among other scenes depicting daily life. This subseries includes restricted photographs documenting medical procedures.
