Interview with Henry Jesse "Mule" Townsend (October 27, 1909-September 24, 2006) American blues singer, guitarist, and pianist conducted by Dick Spottswood, at Wolf Trap, Vienna, Virginia. Townsend discusses meeting Robert Johnson on Jefferson Avenue in St. Louis, Missouri. Both musicians played house parties where Townsend would occasionally play with Johnson. Townsend also converses with Spottswood about Johnson's personality, the subjects of his songs, length of time they had contact, how people responded to his music, his style as compared to other musicians during his time, and the news of his death.
