Object Details

Collection Photographer

Schiedt, Duncan P., 1921-2014

Collection Citation

Duncan Schiedt Jazz Collection, 1900-2012, Archives Center, National Museum of American History

Scope and Contents

Consists of color and black and white prints of primarily jazz musicians and bands but also includes other genres of music. The portraits of musicians are typically headshots or feature the artists holding instruments. Some of the photographs of the musicians and bands are duplicates of the materials in the historical series but not all. This group of material also includes Schiedt's photographic work with more well-known artists and some lesser known groups such as Deacon Hampton's Pickaninny Band, "Dixie" Davis and His Boys, Firehouse Five, Forester's Foot Warmers, Gin Bottle Seven with Carl Halen, Hitch's Happy Harmonists, Holler's Hoosier Harmonists, Indianapolis Newsboys Band, Ink Spots, Joe Liggins and his Honeydrippers, McFarland Twins, McKinney's Cotton Pickers, Pickaninny Brass Band, Pied Pipers with Frank Sinatra, Royal Peacock Orchestra, Salty Dogs, Six Jumping Jack, Syncopating Five and Poor Joe. The materials are arranged first by size and then in alphabetical order by the name of the musician or band.
