Product Designs and Samples

Materials document the creative aspects of making products for the company. This material consists primarily of original designs and samples for baby, birthday, Christmas, Easter, get well, thank you, and general greeting cards. Most of the samples were created by Mary Elizabeth Sandford and date from the 1930s. A few of the designs were created by Helen Sandford and include a 1911 bill of sale. There are also samples for postcards, calendars, mailing envelopes, and albums. Materials are first arranged in chronological order. Boxes 27 through 29 are Sandford Company cards arranged in order by stock number followed by cards arranged in alphabetical order by subject. In later years the Sandford Company purchased surplus from other manufacturers and resold them. These cards have a stock number (i. e. D 16) stamped on the back lower left corner and date from 1908-1915.
