Scope and Contents
Contains material relating to the mother of Mary Elizabeth Kennedy Sandford. Mary Jane Durkee Kennedy was born in 1829 in Conesus, New York. She taught school before her marriage to James Frank Kennedy on October 23, 1849. After the death of her husband Mary Jane returned to teaching but soon took in fine laundry as a more stable means of income. About two years after the death of her husband Mary Jane received a small pension and was able to purchase a house. She died in 1906. Materials consist primarily of correspondence and information relating to her widow's pension. These materials are arranged in chronological order.
