Scope and Contents

Contains the personal papers of the fourth child of Frank Sherman and Mary Elizabeth Sandford. Georgiana Kennedy Sandford was born April 24, 1887 in a house on Health Street in Dansville, New York. She graduated from Dansville High School in 1904. After high school she attended Barnard College and graduated in 1911. She later did graduate work at Columbia University. Georgiana worked for a short period in the family card company. Later she was employed as an agent for State Charities Association in Amsterdam; first woman to receive appointment as a special police officer; operator with the Bell Telephone exchange and in 1915 assistant secretary in charge of case work for Social Service Bureau of Spokane, Washington. Georgiana married Andrew Logan Gilman (April 28, 1886-December 1973) on October 27, 1917. She died in 1982. The materials include a birth certificate, birth announcement, autograph book, diaries dating (from 1901-1921), school papers, newspaper clippings, postcards, correspondence, wedding materials, photographs and a photograph album. Materials are arranged in chronological order.
