Scope and Contents note

VHS, 20 minutes 1. Building the Bobcat 743- The Pride of the Prairie: explains the process of manufacturing the Bobcat 743 through processes that occur at both the Gwinner and Bismarck factories. The video is divided into segments based on the components of the machine: mainframe, chain case, boom arms, cylinders/valves, operator cab, tailgate, wheels, and attachments. The fabrication shop, purchasing department (office workers), welding shop, painting area, quality control process, and industrial engineers are shown. The use of robots and increased efficiency is highlighted. 2. Factory Update 1989 also highlights the use of robots and increased efficiency in manufacturing. Other new technology, such as the use of "cells" and motorized vehicles for moving partially assembled components, are shown.
