Scope and Contents

This sub-series contains 8" x 10" black-and-white construction photographs documenting the work of tunneling and the installation of tunnel shields. The images depict construction workers, especially "sandhogs," defined by the Merriam-Webster Dictionary as, "a laborer who works in a caisson in driving underwater tunnels."
