Posed group of women and one man in two rows in front of the Metropolitan Baptist Church. The front row is seated, whilst the back row stands. The women are dressed in medical service uniform of white dresses, hats and shoes. Most of the women are holding a rolled piece of paper, presumably a diploma. The man stands in the center of the back row dressed in a suit. The plaque on the wall behind reads, "Metropolitan Baptist Church. Sunday Services Preaching 11 A.M. Sabbath School 9 A.M. B.Y.P.U. Society every Sunday 6 P.M. All Welcome. Rev. E.C. Smith... Pastor. 1343 T St. N.W." Ink on negative: caption and "Scurlock Photo". No edge imprint, no Scurlock number. Pencil retouching on faces.

When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired. The Archives Center will control copyright and the use of the collection for reproduction purposes, which will be handled in accordance with its standard reproduction policy guidelines.
