Scope and Contents
Portrait cropped with tape from a larger image in which Randolph is holding an unidentified object with another man. Behind the men the room is ornately decorated, including a large "No Smoking" pedestal sign. No ink on negative, no Scurlock number. Ink on envelope: "2 - 8 x 10's of Randolph". "1 AGFA SAFETY FILM" edge imprint. According to Craig Simpson in an e-mail (19 Nov. 2012), "Man to right of Randolph is John Preston Davis, Executive Secretary of the National Negro Congress from 1935 to 1942. This photograph [was]probably taken in the Spring of 1940 before Randolph quit the NNC. Davis is easily identified by other known photographs of him."

When the Museum purchased the collection from the Estate of Robert S. Scurlock, it obtained all rights, including copyright. The earliest photographs in the collection are in the public domain because their term of copyright has expired.
