Scope and Contents

Primarily consist of sound in the form of audio disc and audiotape recordings. Most of the recordings are 33 1/3 rpm discs and cover the years 1939 to 1987. They include test pressings and reference recordings of Fitzgerald classics like the "Cole Porter Songbook" and "Ella in Berlin", airchecks of performances from venues like the Savoy Ballroom, commercially issued copies of Fitzgerald recordings, and non-Fitzgerald related discs. There are also original audiotape recordings of live performances and interviews. The moving image portion of this series includes film and videotape. These are primarily copies of Fitzgerald's appearances on various television shows. Series is divided into eight subseries. Subseries 10.1 is test pressings, transcription discs, and performer sound disc copies; subseries 10.2 include commercial sound recordings of Fitzgerald's music; subseries 10.3 are demonstration sound discs of other artists and songwriters material; subseries 10.4 contain sound tapes of music; subseries 10.5 are videotapes documenting Fitzgerald's life; subseries 10.6 comprise of reference audio cassette tapes for 1/4" open reel originals; subseries 10.7 are both black and white and color 16mm moving images; and subseries 10.8 is master reel-to-reel audiotapes that serve as the original materials.
