Collection Citation

The Lehigh Coal and Navigation Company Records, Archives Center, National Museum of American History.

Scope and Contents

This series consists of Revenue Statements (financial statements) 1913-1949, of LCNC and its holding company, Lehigh Navigation Coal Company, Inc. There are condensed statements of income and profit and loss for 1913 through February 1930. The condensed statements compare current income with corresponding periods in previous years and give monthly and year-to-date totals for certain budget items. The revenue statements after February 1930 include condensed statements and also general balance sheets showing assets and liabilities; a variety of general balance sheet schedules; and statements of tonnage and cost by colliery, changes in principal accounts, and costs of mining. After 1946, the revenue statements were called income statements and, for one year, financial statements, included with each revenue statement, 1944 and 1946-1949, is a report based on an examination of each statement by a certified public accounting firm, separate revenue statements exist for the LCNC and the LNCC, 1946-1949. One volume, March 1948-December 1949, of financial statements of LNCC, Inc., Lehigh and New England Railroad Company, and LCNC is also included. Each company reported monthly with financial statements similar to those previously described. Certified public accounting firm reports, 1948-1949, for the LNCC statements are included. Finally, a profit and loss statement of the Nesquehoning Colliery of the Edison Anthracite Coal Company, dated February through April 1939 is included which lists LNCC as work contractors in their financial reporting. The materials are arranged chronologically.
