Scope and Contents

The series contains materials related to the analysis of the cost of mining and preparing coal, 1890-1907. There are analyses of inside mining expenses such as mine openings, mining, repairs, and supplies, and outside preparation expenses such as transportation, preparing coal, supplies, and repairs. Also included are condensed statements giving daily and monthly tonnage, total cost, and total cost per ton. In the back of the volumes are colliery summaries of cost data. Additionally, Volume 2 contains a comparative statement on the cost of coal, and data on the percentage of sizes of coal produced. Another portion of these materials include cost of mining reports, 1948-1953, which list data either by individual colliery, by mining district, or in summary form for all collieries, included is information such as cost per ton, cost per mine car, and actual cost reported as total productive, total non-productive, and total inside costs on a monthly and year-to-date basis. Additional information on cost per ton and cost per car is included at the end of each monthly report of the mining districts, summaries include listings by individual colliery of similar type information plus data on cost of coal purchased for collieries, coal production, and actual and forecast costs. Two separate reports contain information on cost and value of coal produced at the Lansford, Coaldale, and Tamaqua Collieries, 1949-1954, and daily cost comparisons for the Tamaqua, Rahn, and Greenwood Mines and the Tamaqua, Coaldale, and Dodson Collieries, 1953.
