Shield, Rawhide:with Impressed Geometric Design: E. Hollis Hopkins Collection, Baltimore, Maryland
According to Heather Akou (10/28/2003), "[The photo] is the outside of a Somali warrior's shield. The design is made by incising the leather covering. The leather is usually hippopotamus or rhinocerous hide." A similar shield is in the ethnology collections of the Smithsonian's Department of Anthropology.
