Scope and Contents
This trail leads over a sharply inclined salient into and out of, the lake valley. The underlying rock is horizontally bedded slate covered deeply with forest mould. The lake banks are too precipitous for roadways or even paths in the vicinity and a large detour would be necessary to reach the opposite bank but for this natural salient which shows no artificial grading or structure. This trail has been mapped by some of the earlier explorers and is quite near a well-known battlefield of Colonial times. This photograph was made in 1918 just prior to its destruction by deforesting. Negative copy, 1915.
