Biographical / Historical

Original pencil sketch by Carl Bodmer, April 29, 1834. Fort Pierre, at the mouth of the Teton River, was the American Fur Company's principal trading post among the Teton Dakota (Western Sioux). The Indian tipis depicted near this post are undoubtedly Sioux. (--JCE)
