Local Note

Oak mortar and open-end basket hopper. [authentic ? see Kroeber, Bureau of American Ethnology, 1952. Kroeber - thinks perhaps hoppers were a white influence. However, Latta also shows photo page 254 of wood mortar with basket hopper. JO. Wood mortars most prevalent on the plains though known in the lower foothills.
