From a portrait probably painted in Washington, D.C., 1834, painter unknown. Ridge was in Washingtonin 1834 and in 1836. Letter in National Archives, Office of Secretary of War, Letters Received, 1834 is a request to the Secretaryof War by the delegation Ridge headed, that Ridge's portraitbe painted. The date of the painting is therefore probably 1834 or possibly 1836, when Ridge again visited Washington. It is not 1835 as stated by Hodge in his edition of McKenney and Hall, Volume I, page 402, for Ridge was not in Washington in 1835.-- Information from Dr Thomas Wilkins, Columbia University, preparing study of life and times of Major Ridge.
