Scope and Contents
Transkei Woman With Child, 1947. The woman and child are standing in front of a base structure for a homestead. Both are wearing white clay around their eyes. This clay is obtained from the river or by scraping a soft white stone. The woman is wearing a head wrap, a cloth wrapped around her chest, an additional cloth thrown over her shoulder, beaded necklaces and brass bracelets. The child is wrapped in a blanket. In 1947, Constance Staurt Larrabee visited the Transkei. She was there researching the housing problems in Southern Africa.
There are no prints of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA produced an 8x10 study print for reference purposes.
