Transkei Mother and Child, 1947. The mother is sitting in front of a wall with her child in her lap. She is looking at the child's hand. Beside her is a cactus. She is wearing white clay around her eyes. This is made by scraping a soft white stone or the clay can be obtained from the river. She is also wearing a head wrap, necklace, and cloth wrapped around her. The child is wearing beads around the neck and waist. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947.
In 1947, Constance Staurt Larrabee visited the Transkei. She was there researching the housing problems in Southern Africa.
There is one 8x10 black and white fiber-based print of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA produced an 8x10 study print and 6x6 contact print for reference purposes.
