Scope and Contents
Young Transkei Man and Women, 1947. Four girls are standing side by side. One of them is avoiding the man who is walking nearby with a whip. The women are wearing blankets and jewelry. This series of photographs is labeled by Constance Stuart as "Transkei Courting." This traditional courting system usually entails a man chasing the women with his small whip and the one he taps with the whip will become his favorite. Photograph by Constance Stuart Larrabee, 1947.
There are no prints of this negative in the Constance Stuart Larrabee Collection. EEPA produced an 8x10 study print and 6x6 contact print for reference purposes.
