Printed text on verso reads "Haute-Volta / En pays Lobi / GAOUA / La cuisine est le domaine propre de la femme / Les pots en terre empilés sont ici plus signe de considération du mari et de richesse qu'ustensiles utilitaires. Ils seront tous brisés à la mort de la propriétaire."
Translated postcard caption reads: "Upper Volta / In Lobi country / GAOUA / The kitchen is the proper domain of Women / The earthen pots stacked here are more of a sign of consideration of the husband and of wealth than utilitarian goods. They will all be broken at the death of their owner."
