Scope and Contents
Original caption reads, "Zulu Women Drinking Zafir Beer, Kimberley, Africa. Kimberley is the center of the diamond fields in Cape Colony, formerly under Boer rule and recently ceded to England after a brave but hopeless defense. The women are seen drinking a native beer out of a gourd, called Colobash, which, when fully grown, is usually cut in two, dried and used as a drinking cup."
