Scope and Contents

Original caption printed on verso reads: "Rasoa, William Ellis's landlady, with weavers, Madagascar, c. 1864."
Original hand-written text on verso, "18-7-95. Dear Chris. Thanks for your fax. It seems a shame not to have them both but as you know I am happy to keep the other." Sad to see "Long John" go but at least he has gone to a good home. We are just getting ready for a proper two week seaside holiday with the girls. I hope they get used to the heat - we are about to get your heatwave. Sometimes there are advantages to working in an underground air-conditioned building. Frantically trying to clear my desk - thanks for all your help. Best regards. Michael."
Additional printed text on verso reads: "Wiliam Ellis, English, 1794-1872 / Albumen silver print from glass negative / Wisbech and Fenland Museum Collection / © Lamba Sarl Silk Textiles / B. P. 5188, Antananarivo / Madagascar."
