Original hand-written text on verso, "My dear Jeanne. How are you doing? We make do with watching the rain fall, it has been like this for 5 weeks. They changed the weather of our South. The... no longer gets out or makes any noise, takes his umbrella, he is quite capable of loosing his (southern sunny) accent. In any case, the admiral takes his command post on the 5th and by the 10th or 15th off with galley to distant parts... I am going to get bored like a poisoned rat I will I believe do some escapade in Marseille and hope that Louis will come join me and buck up his Pierrot's face. My kids are behaving and Andrée studies well. I do like them send you kisses with all my heart."
